Choose the base for your plans
If most of the visit will be spent around town, compare the walking route from each property to your likely meals and activities. If your days involve driving farther along the Eastern Shore, look at parking, departure arrangements and the route back after dark.
Start with the local destination organisation’s accommodation directory and verify details directly with the provider. Listings are research leads, not evidence of availability or a firsthand recommendation from this publication.
Compare the room, not just the property
Ask which room is being offered, its bed arrangement, bathroom and location within the building. A photograph of a sitting room or garden may show a shared space rather than part of your booking. For a group, clarify whether rooms connect or simply sit in the same property.
For a historic building, ask precise access questions: entrance steps, stairs to the room, bathroom layout and parking distance. A general description such as “charming” or “traditional” does not answer those practical needs.
Decide what breakfast and a kitchen mean to you
A breakfast-inclusive stay can simplify the morning if the timing fits your plans. Ask about dietary requirements and whether an early departure can be accommodated. For a rental, confirm equipment and storage before planning market shopping or an ambitious meal.
Compare the complete price, including cleaning, taxes and any other stated charges, then read cancellation and minimum-stay terms for the exact booking. A cheaper nightly headline may not produce the better total for a short weekend.
Save the useful information together
Keep the address, check-in arrangements, provider contact and cancellation terms in one note. Tell the host if travel delays affect arrival. Do not assume a staffed reception desk at every type of accommodation.
